The Milan Furniture Fair (Salone del Mobile.Milano) is an incredible event held annually in the Italian global city of fashion and design. It is the largest trade fair of its kind in the world with 2019’s attendance sitting at more than 370 000 people across 188 different nationalities. The exhibition is a global spectacle that showcases the latest in furniture and design from countries around the world.

Scab Design, Gaber, Plust and Metalmobil (now known as Et al.) launched brand-new designs at the show. Our top picks from each are listed below with a little insight into the specifications and art direction that led to their final design. Et al. aimed for attendees to discover their new beginnings by breathing life into their stand with a vast multitude of fresh designer chair collections. Andrea Anastasio’s Pillow is inspired by people’s need to recharge their batteries and rest during the course of the day. His travels in the Middle East and Asia allowed him to observe the convivial and social rituals that human beings adopt in different cultural contexts.

Scab Design unveiled a new way to furnish bars and restaurants with the Natural Lady B, an enveloping design built in technopolymer with a padded or bare body, bleached or black frame. This piece combines comfort and grit while being able to provide warmth and personality in simple versatility. Our pick from Gaber is perhaps one of their most comfortable offerings yet.

Designed by Studio Favaretto & Partners, the Cucaracha lounge armchair collection is an adaptable addition that we believe would transform any comfort space for the better. Defined by soft and elegant lines, the lounge chair features versatile backrest heights, a swivel seat and a tilt mechanism. Cucaracha comes in a range of notable but subtle colours to customise modern offices, homes or even hotels. Finally, our favourite from Plust focuses on a design suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Cedric Ragot’s Planet Chair is a returning piece from 2017 that has since been revisited and interpreted to deliver better functionality. The chair features a rotomoulded PE shell at the bottom with new lightweight aluminium legs (replacing the previous wooden ones) being attached in seamless natural lines.

Planet Chair has a strong personality and its easy-to-move seat adapts effortlessly to different environments. To see more grand designs from this global event, click here.
